Fluke Corporation has introduced the Fluke 28 II Ex DMM, a digital multimeter for measurements both inside and outside of hazardous zones. The device meets intrinsic safety (IS) standards worldwide (Qld pending) for safe use inside potentially explosive environments, making it suitable for use in petroleum, chemical and pharmaceutical facilities.
Electrical connectivity supplier Weidmuller has released its SIL 3 Safety Relay. Created specifically for use in the emergency shutdown of plants and plant components in the process industry, the device increases plant availability and safety.
WorkCover NSW has issued a safety alert to remind electrical workers of the inherent dangers of cutting electrical conduits that are in service. These conduits may contain multiple circuits. This is in response to an incident where an electrical contractor received a fatal electric shock. The contractor was replacing a faulty lighting circuit that was located in an underground heavy-duty PVC conduit. He isolated the lighting circuit at the meter board and proceeded to carry out the repairs.
Cirlock has available a range of padlockable lockout devices that have been designed to fit most miniature circuit breakers with acceptable holes. These varieties are: the UCL-PI (pin in), the UCL-PO (pin out) and the UCL-POW (pin out wide).
Offering protection from surges and spikes, the Eaton POD range of powerboards is suitable for computers, home entertainment systems and other electronic equipment. It also protects against line noise that may affect sensitive equipment.
The Phoenix Contact PSR-ESAM 4 safety relay, which has three safety switching paths and a signalling output, is used for two-channel monitoring of emergency stop control devices or safety door switches in machines and systems.
The PLIDdys safe line inspection device provides a safe power-up on two-wire connections, providing safety on long cable routes of up to three kilometres. The device allows unintended power-up or plant start-up to be excluded in the event of an error. This is particularly beneficial on interlinked plants or on plant sections distributed over a wide area, which may not always be clearly visible. The compact design means that existing plants can easily be retrofitted.
The Quick PRD surge protector provides protection against induced or conducted surges resulting from indirect lighting strikes. The product features remote end-of-life signalling and requires limited maintenance. It is simple to install with an easy-to-earth terminal and it can be installed directly into the switchboard frame.
The S31 safety padlocks have a durable non-conductive Xenoy lock body and a 4.76 mm marine-grade 316 stainless steel shackle. The padlocks are available in nine colours and are lightweight, making them easy to carry. They also perform in extreme conditions, with a temperature rating range of -46 to 177°C and the ability to withstand harsh chemicals and corrosion.
