Small revisions keep the WHS Strategy relevant

A revised version of the Australian Work Health and Safety Strategy 2012–2022 has been released by Safe Work Australia.

Some minor language changes and more explicit reference to workplace bullying, harassment and occupational violence will keep the strategy relevant for the next five years.

The changes are the result of the strategy’s scheduled mid-term review which showed overall support for the strategy to remain largely unchanged.

The review did highlight some areas for greater attention to ensure the strategy has greatest impact going forward. As a result, Safe Work Australia members agreed to:

  • undertake detailed analysis of the causes and controls of work-related fatalities, injuries and illnesses, with an initial focus on the agriculture industry and musculoskeletal disorders;
  • explore the feasibility of national lead indicators to support improved workplace performance measurement and reporting;
  • develop effective information sharing and improved coordination of activities implemented under the strategy.

Safe Work Australia is continuing to work with the Commonwealth, state and territory governments, industry, unions and the community to achieve the strategy’s vision of ‘healthy, safe and productive working lives’ for all.
