Safe Work Australia releases guidance on managing AI risks

Including a broad range of digital hardware and software used at work, while AI and digital technologies can improve productivity and support more effective management of WHS risks, these technologies can also create new hazards or increase existing physical and psychological risks.

To help employers, workers and other duty holders understand the WHS implications of introducing or changing AI and digital technologies in the workplace, Safe Work Australia (SWA) has developed guidance.

“The guidance, available on our website, outlines the opportunities, risks and WHS considerations associated with AI and digital technologies. It also explains how, in consultation with workers and their representatives, duty holders can apply the WHS risk management process to ensure these technologies are introduced and used safely,” SWA said.

“Under the model WHS laws, employers have a duty to manage the risks arising from AI and digital technologies to ensure that workers and others remain healthy and safe at work.”
