Safer road construction

Roadsafe is a privately owned New Zealand company based in Auckland, specialising in traffic control for the roading construction market.

Sykes Safeway recently assisted Roadsafe in creating a safer worksite for its employees and the public through the purchase of six Solingo VMS portable variable message sign boards. The acquisition of these boards makes Roadsafe one of the first companies to implement the use of such technology in and around the day-to-day management of a road work site in New Zealand.

The Sykes message boards utilise the latest technology LEDs to give the signs very high visibility and wide viewing angles, while also allowing an endless variety of messages or images to be displayed on the signs.

Roadsafe's strategy has been to not only use the message boards during road construction projects, but to also introduce their use prior to commencement of work, advising the public of the start date and expected delays, giving them time to consider alternative routes and travel options.

Roadsafe has received positive feedback from both staff and public, since the introduction of the message boards. Verbal comments from staff have provided internal feedback to Roadsafe that its worksites are much safer with lower speeds and indeed even fewer vehicles on the road.
