How can we avoid the B.S. and just be safe?

Brought to you by the leading safety industry body NSCA Foundation, The National Safety Conference, part of SAFETYconnect 2018, will feature an impressive two-day, two-stream conference with international and local keynote presentations.

The first of the keynotes is Eldeen Pozniak, CEO, Pozniak Safety Associates (Canada). A fellow of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (FIIRSM) and a Chartered Member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health in the UK (CMIOSH), Pozniak will explore the foundations of safety and the factors that can contribute to the development of emotionally intelligent leaders who can avoid the B.S.

Joining Pozniak on the keynote stage, Prof. Andrew Hopkins, Emeritus Professor of Sociology, Australian National University, will enlighten delegates about the development of a safety culture within the workplace and the reasons why it is often misunderstood. And Matthew Smith, Partner, Sparke Helmore Lawyers, will discuss what you need to know about harsh penalties imposed by the industrial manslaughter safety reforms.

The WHS management conference stream will include presentations from Dr Tristan Casey, Principal Advisor, Leadership & Culture Unit, Office of Industrial Relations, and Jillian Hamilton, Managing Director, Manage Damage. Attendees of the industrial conference stream will be able to learn more about: Asbestos — best practice in risk management; New industry code for height safety; The science of fit & protection for PPE; Alcohol culture change in the construction industry; and Work driving safety — managing your Grey Fleet.

Running alongside the conference, an industry expo will showcase the latest products and technology available to OHS/WHS professionals and will be open to day visitors as well as conference delegates.

Registrations are now open for the SAFETYconnect 2018 conference and expo, which is being held 29–30 August 2018 at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre.
