Incorrect health and safety practices: a recipe for disaster

Restaurant and catering industry workers and managers face numerous health and safety issues that can affect both employees and customers. The pace of work can often be hectic, work areas cluttered and floors slippery. Without proper information pertaining to health and safety practices, workplace injuries and incorrect food handling that results in food poisoning can easily occur.

By displaying industry specific information, employers can increase staff awareness and maintain a safe and healthy workplace. The Restaurant and Catering Australia’s Food Guide to Safety & Hygiene 2016/17 is supported by Restaurant & Catering Australia (R&CA). The guide contains up-to-date information on a range of key health and safety issues and offers specific prevention strategies.

Key areas addressed within the guide include:

  • treating burns and scalds
  • preventing cross-contamination
  • preventing slips, trips and falls
  • developing emergency procedures
  • safe manual handling
  • temperature control.

Restaurant and catering industry workers can now digitally interact with the guide using the free Pro-Vis AR app. The app enhances the traditional print media experience by providing a window to further resources relevant to the industry. This experience creates engagement and motivation for employees, while delivering vital information to help ensure every workplace is a safe one.

“I would like to thank the sponsors of the Restaurant & Catering Australia’s Guide to Food Safety & Hygiene 2016/17,” said John Hutchings, CEO, Pro-Visual Publishing. “Their support has made it possible to distribute the Guide free of charge.”

Pro-Visual Publishing is the leading specialist in wall-mounted workplace health and safety, food safety and hygiene, and wellbeing information resource guides. The guides are vital resources to help prevent workplace injuries and ensure good health to employees and customers.
