ATA alerts drivers to seatbelt safety options
A new safety alert has been released by the ATA, highlighting the availability of truck suspension seats with integrated belts.
Integrated seatbelts with a driver’s suspension seat are designed to comfortably secure the driver and reduce consequences in the event of a crash.
A common reason for heavy-vehicle drivers not wearing seatbelts is that they are uncomfortable. This is mainly due to the use of suspension seats with cab-mounted belts locking during driving over rough roads. Research and studies have shown that seatbelts reduce the risk of injury and fatality for all road users.
The ATA safety alert lists the availability of integrated seatbelts with the driver’s suspension seat for heavy vehicles. It also highlights other important actions that drivers and owners need to be aware of, including appropriate seatbelt maintenance in their regular vehicle servicing.
By providing details on what is currently available to industry, the safety alert is intended to increase seatbelt use and save lives.
