Two serious falls in two days
SafeWork SA is investigating an incident at Leigh Creek in the north of South Australia, where a man apparently fell from a bulldozer and later died in hospital.
South Australia Police provided the first response to the incident, however the circumstances will be examined in detail by inspectors from SafeWork SA's Mines and Major Hazards Team.
In a separate incident, SafeWork SA is investigating a fall from a housing construction site at Belair in the Adrelaide Hills last Wednesday, which has left a 65-year-old carpenter hospitalised in a critical condition.
Early indications are that the man fell from a height of 3 to 4 m. On impact, a roof truss weighing aproximately 100 kg then struck him.
The worker sustained serious pelvic and other injuries.
Statistics show that falls rank highly as a cause of death and injury in the workplace, and SafeWork SA is urging employers and employees in all industries where work at height is required to review and enforce their safe work procedures for such tasks.
