Life Guard Caps provide impalement protection from the exposed ends of reinforcing bars, bolts, pegs, stakes, star pickets and other projecting hazards in the workplace.
Two cap sizes are available: the yellow cap suits reinforcement bars from 12 to 20 mm nominal diameter, or small pegs; and the orange cap suits 24 to 36 mm nominal diameter reinforcing bars, larger pegs and star pickets.
The caps are manufactured from robust, UV-stabilised polypropylene material and feature a 115 mm diameter domed carapace encasing a 2 mm-thick domed steel plate, with a central raised boss. Each cap also has an integral sleeve that fits over the end of a rebar, with internal ribs to centre the cap and accommodate varying bar sizes.
Radial gussets between the sleeve and underside of the top provide additional stability, with each sleeve featuring longitudinal ribs for added rigidity.
In the absence of Australian standards for testing impalement protection, the caps have been independently tested to meet the requirements of the California Occupational Health and Safety Administration. This includes testing for no penetration of a 114 kg mass dropped from a height of 3 m onto the capped end of a reinforcing bar.
