One dead, another injured in landfill incident
Two men became trapped under landfill during a worksite accident in Sydney yesterday, resulting in the death of one worker and serious injuries for the other.
It has been reported that both men were hit by a heavy vehicle, which was transporting landfill waste at a Dial a Dump tip in Eastern Creek.
The workers were subsequently buried beneath mounds of rubbish intended for landfill, which rescuers dug through in an attempt to free them. The first man was flown to Westmead Hospital with shoulder and abdominal injuries, but the second man was killed.
“SafeWork is investigating an incident at Eastern Creek yesterday where a worker was killed and another seriously injured. SafeWork inspectors are returning to the site today and investigations are ongoing. A report will be prepared for the Coroner,” said a spokesperson from SafeWork NSW.
