New public register for asbestos removal licence holders
The Asbestos Safety and Eradication Agency has announced that anyone with an Australian Capital Territory (ACT) licence for asbestos removal (class A and B), asbestos assessment, high-risk work or major hazard facilities will have their licence details published on the WorkSafe ACT online register. Anyone with these licence types who has received certain types of infringements will also have their infringement details published online.
The changes, which will come into effect from 1 February 2021, are being implemented to encourage licence holders to comply with work health and safety regulations and protect the health and safety of workers and the community.
Guidelines on the ACT Legislation Registration website will provide more details about which infringements and the type of information that will be published online. Once published, any information about infringement notices will be on the register for two years from the date of the offence, or for five years if the licence holder receives more than two infringement notices within 24 months.
