Get prepared for new trucking safety rules in 2018

New safety duties will be introduced for businesses in the Heavy Vehicle National Law chain of responsibility.

These duties will focus on maintenance and repairs, with maximum penalties increasing dramatically.

In addition, directors and executives will have new diligence obligations.

The Australian Trucking Association and global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright will offer delegates to Trucking Australia 2017 an exclusive opportunity to learn about the new safety rules, which will come into effect in 2018.

“This exclusive masterclass at Trucking Australia 2017 will give you valuable and pertinent information on the changes to chain of responsibility and how to prepare for them,” said Katherine Morris, partner at Norton Rose Fulbright.

The two-hour masterclass is designed to give delegates a practical understanding of the changes coming to the chain of responsibility laws.

“It is vital that everyone involved in the freight task, trucking and transportation industries understand these changes so they are not left behind and can meet their new obligations,” Morris said.

All registered delegates who attend the masterclass will receive a certificate of attendance signed by the ATA and Norton Rose Fulbright.

The session will be preceded by a presentation by NHVR CEO Sal Petroccitto, who will provide background on the new requirements and the NHVR’s approach to enforcement.

Trucking Australia 2017 will give everyone in the trucking industry the space to have meaningful and relevant discussions on industry issues as well as network with industry peers in Darwin.

The event will run from 21–23 June 2017 in Darwin and will feature open plenary sessions, keynote speeches on relevant industry topics and more.
