Finalists announced for 2012 SafeWork Awards

The finalists in the 2012 WorkCover NSW SafeWork Awards have been announced.

Forty finalists were selected out of 71 entries from organisations across the state.

“This year's finalists cover a range of industries and include safety innovations including a robot cutting machine and mechanical work pit cover as well as simple and effective solutions such as anti-bullying initiatives and safety videos,” said John Watson, general manager of WorkCover's Work Health and Safety Division.

“A safe workplace drives mutually beneficial outcomes and these finalists demonstrate leadership in reducing injury risks and raising awareness of safety,” said Watson.

The finalists will be assessed by a panel of representatives from WorkCover, trade unions, employer groups and workplace safety advisory bodies.

Winners will be announced at The Westin in Sydney on 25 October during Safe Work Australia Week (21-27 October).

The category 1-4 winners will also receive automatic entry into the 2013 National Safe Work Australia Awards.

The finalists include:

Category 1: Best workplace health and safety management system

Rooty Hill RSL Club Limited; Alminco; Bega Cheese Ltd; OFA Showstar Carnival; David Payne Constructions; Coleambally Irrigation; Mirvac.

Category 2: Best solution to an identified workplace health and safety issue

Bingo Group; GM Scott; Mission Australia; Costa Logistics; Agi-Kleen Pty Ltd; Sawtell Public School; Nordiko Quarantine Systems; State Transit NSW; Ambulance Service of NSW; Eco Smart Lighting; Veolia Transdev; NSW Roads and Maritime Services; TransGrid; Crown Relocations; Eden Brae Homes; Coleambally Irrigation.

Category 3: Best workplace health and safety practices in a small business

NA Group; PowerData; Hunter Spring Water; Cape Cod; Pure Hair Pure Body.

Category 4: Best individual contribution to workplace health and safety

Phil Wiffen, Sydney Institute of TAFE; Ken McKell, Australian Meat Industry Council; Soula Vlahos, RailCorp; Jenifer Ringor, Aristocrat; Ben Woodbridge, Daracon Group; Julie Toseski, Forest Enterprises Australia; Andrew Simpson, Glenreagh Railway.

Category 5: WorkCover NSW leadership safety award
