Fike awarded for its ship safety system
A camera mounted in hazard areas to detect oil mist in ship engine rooms has seen Fike win the 2016 SAFETY4SEA Initiative Award at a forum in Greece.
Fike Video Analytics processes the video from the cameras to intelligently monitor and detect the unique signatures of oil mist, smoke, flame and reflected flame.
The system can be monitored by shipboard personnel and linked to automation and safety management systems, allowing critical time to take action before disaster occurs.
“We are grateful to all those who voted in favour of Fike, recognising that Fike Video Analytics creates a highly efficient means for rapidly detecting oil mist, a precursor to a potential fire or explosion,” said Rick Jeffress, business development director at Fike. “Video analytics has proven to be an effective way to detect fire.”
