Empire Caravans, an Australian caravan manufacturer, has pleaded guilty to failing to comply with safety improvement notices issued by WorkSafe.

The company pleaded guilty to six counts of failing to comply with an improvement notice under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and was fined $5500 without conviction and ordered to pay $2000 costs.

Improvement notices identified health and safety issues and gave people the opportunity to deal with them, said Director of WorkSafe’s Manufacturing, Logistics and Agriculture Division, Ross Pilkington.

“If someone is hurt, the personal, commercial and legal consequences for a business or its owners can be considerable,” said Pilkington.
