Draft WHS (Mines) Regulation 2014 - public consultation
A draft NSW Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulation 2014 has been developed and is now available for comment as part of the public consultation process.
The regulation supports the NSW Work Health and Safety (Mines) Act 2013. Together they align specific mine safety laws with general work health and safety laws to provide a single legislative framework for the regulation of safety in all mining sectors (eg, coal, metalliferous and extractive).
The regulation is based on the national model WHS (Mines) Regulation and additional mining provisions agreed by New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia. It is another important step towards the harmonisation of work health and safety laws for mining.
NSW Trade & Investment is now seeking submissions on the draft regulation.
A discussion paper is available that highlights particular issues for comment and provides context around the development of the new legislative framework.
All submissions must be received by 27 June 2014.
For a copy of the draft regulation, visit the NSW Trade & Investment website.
