Could nodding off at work improve safety?

Welnis Labs and Metronaps, manufacturer of napping pods, have teamed up to get Australians nodding off at work - all in the name of productivity, workplace wellness and worker safety. As further benefits are discovered, napping could become increasingly commonplace across workplaces in the coming years.

Indeed, a recent NASA study has shown that a nap of around 20 minutes increased productivity by up to 34% and increased alertness by up to 54%. In workplaces where safety and fatigue management is paramount, these figures could be significant.

Nigel Hobbs, founder of Welnis, said, “We have been embracing napping in our workplace for some time now. Personally, I have been taking afternoon naps for over two years and I literally cannot imagine ever going back. After a nap I feel more energised and happy, I work much more efficiently and importantly without any stress.”

Hobbs said, “I think what employers need to remember is that by allowing their employees to nap, they can literally create more productive hours in the day. Napping significantly reduces presenteeism whereby a person may be present at their desk but too tired to be functioning at anywhere near optimal levels.”

Metronaps EnergyPods are already in use at BHP Billiton, Google, MBF, Virgin Active Gyms and for students at the University Of Wollongong.

With a built-in privacy visor and technology that gently wakes you after a nap, the napping pods can provide an effective and easy way to introduce the benefits of power napping into the workplace.
