Construction inspections for WA
Construction sites across Perth’s northern suburbs will soon see inspectors checking up on safety standards as part of a new proactive inspection program by WorkSafe.
WorkSafe Director Chris Kirwin said the program would involve construction inspectors focusing on the priority areas of electrical safety and working at heights at job sites from Joondalup to Yanchep in the last week of August.
They will also concentrate on ensuring that workers have had the appropriate induction training and have High Risk Work Licences where required.
“The program will be part of a continuing series of proactive inspection programs targeting construction workplaces in specific geographical areas,” Kirwin said.
“WorkSafe’s construction inspectors will help employers identify the risks to the safety and health of workers and provide them with information on how to comply with workplace safety laws.
“Although proactive inspection programs are primarily educational exercises, inspectors will take enforcement action if they discover breaches of the workplace safety laws.”
Inspectors will also look at edge protection and scaffolding and Safe Work Method Statements.
“Employer associations have been notified of the inspection program, so we anticipate that employers will be aware of what will be required when inspectors visit,” Kirwin added.
“We firmly believe that raising awareness with proactive programs is the best way in which to lessen the risk of work-related injury and illness.”
