A new approach to safety training

Increased awareness of safety risks and the availability of technical information in recent years have led to a rise in industry requirements to push for a high level of competency when operating machinery for both workers and employers.

To help address this, industry training expert Pilz has developed a new training program to simplify professional development for individuals and whole organisations, as well as to enhance safety cultures within workplaces.

“When dealing with safety matters, employers need to consider a multidisciplined approach,” Pilz said in a release.

The company said its ‘BIAC’ (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Certified) training program has been specifically designed to not only improve worker safety around heavy machinery, but also increase worker know-how and help employees develop their careers.

The program is divided into training steps. As the steps progress, the content becomes more complex in order to achieve CMSE (Certified Machinery Safety Expert) recognition.

Pilz said those going through the BIAC program will learn the technical safety of machinery, including regulations and standards, and also discover how this may be applied to the design, build, maintenance, modification and operation of machinery.

BIAC also works by facilitating employees at all levels to enter into the training program at the stage most suitable for them and continue to the final level (certified) if relevant to their role.
