2009 SRCC Safety Awards

The Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission (SRCC) Awards, presented at a gala dinner on 24 September are designed to showcase the sophisticated systems and innovative practices organisations are utilising to ensure all employees are safe at work.

Through a formal recognition process, agencies and individuals who have achieved excellence in their respective fields through the introduction and/or development or improvement of safety standards will be rewarded for their initiatives.

The winners of the 2009 SRCC Safety Awards winners were:

  • Category 1 - Leadership Award for Injury or Disease Prevention and Management
    • Winner - TNT Australia for ‘Leading from the Top’
    • Commendation - Department of Immigration and Citizenship for ‘Our People - Our Future’
    • Commendation - Department of Defence - Training Command, Army for ‘A Safety Management System’
  • Category 2: Best Workplace Health and Safety Management System
    • Winner - Australian Institute of Marine Science for ‘Scott Reef Research Program - Safety Management System’
    • High Commendation - National Gallery of Australia for ‘Making Health and Safety a Fine Art’
  • Category 3: Best Solution to an Identified Workplace Health and Safety Issue
    • Winner - Australian air Express for ‘Opening Doors to a Safer Workplace’
    • High Commendation - CSIRO Livestock Industries, Australian Animal Health Laboratory for ‘Liquid Nitrogen Dewar Filling Station’
    • Commendation - National Gallery of Australia for ‘Tiny’
  • Category 4: Best Individual Contribution to Health and Safety - Sub-category (a): An employee who does not have responsibility for OHS as part of their duties
    • Winner - WO2 Bruce Ferguson, Department of Defence
    • High Commendation - Tom McCracken, John Holland Pty Ltd
    • Commendation - PO Scott Norbury, Department of Defence
  • Category 4: Best Individual Contribution to Health and Safety - Sub-category (b): An outstanding contribution by a person with responsibility for OHS as part of their duties
    • Winner - Russell Power, Department of Defence
    • High Commendation - Dr Angelica Vecchio-Sadus, CSIRO
    • Commendation - Doug Thompson, BIS Industries
  • Category 5: Rehabilitation and Return to Work Award
    • Winner - Australia Post for ‘Creating a Nationally Consistent Approach to the Provision of Rehabilitation Management’
    • High Commendation - TNT Australia for ‘Educating and Communicating with the Injured Workers’
    • High Commendation - Department of Defence for ADF Rehabilitation Program
