Self-contained self rescuers

Tuesday, 16 December, 2003 | Supplied by: Austdac Pty Ltd

The ASMD unit is a self-contained self rescuer that is small and portable and the tests can be performed in-situ by a trained mine operator or by Austdac personnel.

The ASMD system enables an accurate assessment of the condition of the chemical bed to be achieved. It uses an audio technique to determine the condition of the self rescuer unit by measuring chemical bed degradation in a non-destructive way.

The benefits of ASMD are that each unit at a mine can be periodically checked to ensure that it still complies with the manufacturer's specifications.
