Mine Refuge/ Rescue Chambers (MRC) and Fresh Air Bases (FAB) operate as a safe haven and provide a safe environment for a longer period than a walk-through system.

MRCs are in fact an over sized self rescuer that holds up to 30 miners and will provide up to 36 hours of quality breathing air.

In the worst case scenario where the loss of power and mine air occurs, a properly constructed and fitted-out refuge chamber will operate totally independent of all services and provide a safe place for miners to rest until the danger has passed.

The advantage of a mobile MRC is that it can be sited in a remote location within an underground mine site while maintaining communication with the surface and can be easily moved as needed.

An essential part of the mine rescue plan should consider both the satellite self rescuer change over base (SRCOB) and MRC options.

SRCOB and the MRC are very much dependent upon the size and added options, with proper care, these units will last at least 10 years.
