Manhole access cover

Coversafe Access Alert addresses the issue of manhole/confined space dangers. Sewer and stormwater manholes are the most common confined space in residential and commercial areas, and in many instances, the most easily accessible.

The Access Alert allows organisations to conform with the AS/NZ2865:2001 Safe Working in a Confined Space and to comply with the WorkCover OHS Regulation 2001 which requires confined spaces to be identified and secured.

The device is lockable, preventing any unauthorised entry. As well, contractors carrying out work legally in the manhole are reminded by signs on the device to carry out certain checks before entering.

Over the years, deaths have occurred during manhole inspections; most commonly these have been caused by inhalation of hydrogen sulfide, an odourless gas. There are also other equally dangerous factors that cannot be ignored.

Coversafe also prevents illegal disposal of waste. Warning texts on the cover can be customised to comply with individual local councils, water authorities or emergency services. Also included on each Access Alert is the Confined Space sign, to Australian Standards.
