Donaldson Australasia has released Dura-Life - a bag filter media with an operational life claimed to be twice what industry has been achieving with traditional polyester bags.

Dura-Life has been tested extensively with dust media including powder paint pigment, wood dust, food dust, cement and other materials.

It is a product of the felt-making process, but whereas felt is traditionally created by needles which entangle the fibres (needling), Dura-Life is manufactured using 'hydro-entanglement', which uses high pressure water jets to get a far more even weave pattern. Hydro-entanglement creates a more consistent and uniform filter material, as well as a smaller and more consistent hole size throughout the material, hence a more efficient filtration media. This material is comparable in thickness to standard polyester yet it weighs about one third less. It ensures far less dust penetration through the bags, greater dust retention on the surface of the bags, resulting in a much more efficient reverse pulsing action.

Bag house dust collectors with Dura-Life are capable of extremely high rates and volumes of dust and fibre collection indoors and outdoors. The dust is drawn into the collector by a fan through a system of capture hoods and ducts where it collects onto the outside of the Dura-Life bags, leaving only dust-free clean air passing through the bag material. A reverse pulse shakes dust from the bag into a gravity-fed collection unit from which it is safely and conveniently removed according to industry requirements.
