Concrete training

The safety of workers making and installing concrete panels will be the focus of a series of training days being held across Melbourne this month.

It follows the death of a worker at Pakenham on 8 March when a concrete panel fell and killed him.

A subsequent state-wide enforcement campaign at construction sites has identified a large number of safety breaches.

More than 140 visits by WorkSafe inspectors since the death resulted in more than 30 improvement and prohibition notices being issued.

One of the most common was failing to plan and implement safe systems of work.

The free training days are being held at Knoxfield (two sessions), Brooklyn and Altona.

The training days are aimed at everyone involved in the concrete panel industry including designers, concreters, crane and rigging crews.
