Fever screening kiosks to enhance workplace safety

Automation technology provider Elenium Automation has entered a partnership with Australian security company Wilson Security to incorporate Elenium’s HealthGate device — an ARTG-lifted automated fever screening kiosk — into its technology portfolio, providing safer access control into major arenas and workplaces across Australia. HealthGate, designed and manufactured in Melbourne, offers automated, touchless and accurate health screening for entry into public facilities. It incorporates health declaration technology, enabling visitors to self-declare their symptoms and movement history via voice recognition, as well as touchless check-in for contact tracing. The device can also be configured to measure vital signs for people wearing masks, so that visitors are not required to remove their masks to enter.

HealthGate is designed to detect a potential fever in under two seconds and eliminate human error in administrating the health screening process. The solution does not require an operator, meaning that staff are not put in harm’s way. HealthGate is also touchless, allowing visitors to declare their health and check-in through voice recognition and virtual touchscreen technology. Any temperature measuring product for use on humans for the intended purpose of screening potentially febrile individuals must meet the legal definition of a medical device and is required to comply with the Australian regulatory requirements set out in the Therapeutic Goods Act 1989 (the Act), the Therapeutic Goods (Medical Devices) Regulations 2002 (the Regulations) and the Therapeutic Goods Regulation 1990. HealthGate has been granted regulatory approval by the Therapeutic Goods Administration.

Wilson Security provides holistic security solutions, with a growing focus on integrated technology solutions and mitigating risk across many industries in Australia, including health care, mining, transport, retail, banking and education. Through the partnership with Elenium, Wilson Security intends to introduce HealthGate devices into its clients’ workplaces and public venues nationally. Wilson Security CEO Nick Frangoulis noted that with the onset of COVID-19, early detection and screening for health and safety risks within the workplace and public spaces is critical. “Through this technology we are providing peace of mind and empowering businesses with a world-class solution, to integrate people into workplaces safely during these unprecedented times,” said Frangoulis.

Elenium CEO and Co-founder Aaron Hornlimann added that the partnership with Wilson Security is an important milestone in getting Elenium’s devices into more businesses across the country, particularly organisations and public venues with high traffic where the risks are greater. “Research shows that people will be honest on pre-screening questions if they know they will be health tested on arrival. We also know that a majority of people with a viral infection also have a fever. The purpose of HealthGate is to provide an added layer of compliance and safety for people entering workplaces and public venues while improving efficiency. It encourages safe behaviour,” Hornlimann said.
