Safety guidance for residential construction
The NSW government has launched a series of guides to improve workplace safety in the housing construction industry across three states.
Industrial Relations Minister John Della Bosca said the guides are consistent with workplace safety regulations in New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria.
“Our three states have worked collaboratively to develop guidance material for the domestic construction industry that will be relevant in each jurisdiction,” Della Bosca said.
“The guidance material focuses on a range of safety issues in housing construction including supervision, site security, site access and amenities.
“A consistent approach to workplace health and safety requirements for the building and construction industry in multiple jurisdictions will help improve safety and reduce the risk of injury.”
The guides are consistent with the National Standard for Construction Work and were developed by the jurisdictions in consultation with key industry groups.
The guides, ‘Site security and public access onto housing construction sites’, ‘Amenities on housing sites’ and ‘What is adequate site supervision?’ are available from each state’s OHS authority.
