Greater availability of AGVs due to weather-dependent speed adjustment

The SICK AGV Dynamic Weather Assist safety system increases the availability of automated guided vehicles (AGVs) in rain and snow. It consists of the outdoorScan3 safety laser scanner, the Flexi Soft safety controller and a software function block. Using the function block, the safety laser scanner automatically switches its protective fields depending on the weather, thereby enabling continuous operation of the AGV, even in heavy rain or snowfall. Instead of stopping, the AGVs only move more slowly than when the sun is shining.

The benefits: Unplanned vehicle stops as weather-dependent interruptions of the material flow are avoided, and AGV mechanics and braking systems are protected.

What is AGV Dynamic Weather Assist?

The software for the AGV Dynamic Weather Assist safety system consists of a functional block for the Flexi Soft safety controller. The function block allows for an automated switching of the protective fields of the SICK safety laser scanner outdoorScan3 depending on environmental conditions, in particular precipitation, thus enabling outdoor AGVs to continuously operate even during heavy rain or snow. Instead of stopping, AGVs will continue driving at a reduced speed. Unplanned stops and weather-caused interruptions of the material flow are avoided and the stress on the brakes and other mechanical parts of the AGV will be reduced. The available matching hardware and operating instructions simplify the system integration.
