Two-handed DC electric start

Friday, 21 September, 2007 | Supplied by: Hawker Richardson

The Stanley Assembly Technologies two-handed start solution keeps the operator's hands away from rotating spindles and pinch points while using DC nut runners, especially tube nuts. Most two-handed controls for nut runners have relied on fixed push-buttons or extra levers mounted in various locations, rendering the tools ergonomically disadvantageous.

A low-force spring-loaded sleeve with a second switch allows the operator to grip the tool comfortably in any orientation. Both switches must be actuated for the tool to start.

The device features a standard lever, along with an optional switch which must be engaged simultaneously in order to start the tool.

By requiring that the operator use both hands to start the tool, potential injuries can be avoided.
