Model WHS regulations finalised ahead of engineered stone ban
Safe Work Australia has finalised the amendments to the model Work Health and Safety Regulations to help jurisdictions give effect to the engineered stone ban from 1 July 2024. The amendments are designed to protect workers from the health and safety risks of exposure to respirable crystalline silica from any material or product that contains at least 1% crystalline silica, from September 2024.
The model WHS Regulations are not laws, but will be used by jurisdictions (including WA) to draft consistent amendments to their work health and safety laws. For more information about the amendments to the model WHS laws, visit the Safe Work Australia website.
