BHP wins SAMERC for second consecutive year
With a record 12 teams in nine emergency rescue scenarios in 2026, BHP has taken out the top prize for a second consecutive year with the crew from Prominent Hill in the South Australian Mines Emergency Response Competition (SAMERC) — an annual event designed to test and build the practical skills, teamwork and readiness of mine rescue and emergency response teams from across Australia and New Zealand.

Having run from 21–23 October, the National Safe Work Month event was held in Adelaide at the Angle Park MFS Training Centre, the BHP Prominent Hill win of the SAMERC Perpetual Trophy following the success of fellow SA team BHP Carrapateena in 2025. Another key success was New Zealand’s Oceana Gold team, winning five categories. This year also saw the first all-female team compete — Victoria’s ISH24 Women’s Mutual Aid Team.
