Wednesday, 29 September, 2010 | Supplied by: Pathtech Pty Ltd

Pathtech offers training in the use of saliva drug detection devices to assist companies adhere to the Australian Standard Procedures for Specimen Collection and the Detection and Quantitation of Drugs in Oral Fluid (AS 4760-2006) to comply with their OHS requirements.

The training covers procedures in obtaining and handling specimen samples of saliva.

Saliva testing is becoming increasingly used as the preferred method of drug detection in many industrial and mining workplaces, as an alternative to urine-based testing. This is due to its comparative ease of use and non-invasive means to administer random, suspicion or point-of-incident testing.

Testing a worker’s saliva provides a narrower window of detection, indicating whether they are fit for work or impairment, rather than impacting on lifestyle choices made by the donor. Privacy is therefore protected, both at time of specimen collection and regarding lifestyle choices. Specimen collection can be observed without embarrassment and therefore less possibility of adulteration of samples.
