WorkSafe investigates farm fatality
WorkSafe Victoria is investigating a farm fatality following the death of a worker in Elphinstone on Sunday.
It’s believed the 34-year-old farm worker was fatally crushed after the tractor he was using to tow a bogged vehicle tipped backwards.
WorkSafe Regional Director Adam Rogers said the incident was a tragedy.
“Everyone deserves to go home at the end of the day and, sadly, this wasn’t the case for a worker who started his day like any other day. Our condolences go out to the man’s family and friends.”
Rogers said, while the investigation into the incident had just commenced, it served as a reminder of the importance of operating tractors and all equipment in a safe manner.
“While tractors are used on thousands of farms across the state, it’s essential those operating them are aware of the risks and the consequences when using this type of equipment,” he said.
“Employers should conduct a risk assessment and take into consideration the environment and conditions in which the machine is working in.”
