Safety short course for resource sector

Tuesday, 15 January, 2013

Qualified electrical mechanics have the chance to upskill with a safety short course for the resource sector at SkillsTech Australia’s Eagle Farm Training Centre.

SkillsTech Australia electrical teacher Keith Pattingale said the post-trade short course would give electrical mechanics the skills and knowledge to work in the field of Electrical Equipment and Hazardous Areas (EEHA).

“Students will gain the skill set required to maintain electrical equipment in the coal mining and gas sectors plus within dust and pressurised environments,” Pattingale said.

“This is a desirable qualification in the resource sector.

“Training is delivered face to face and provides students with the practical aspects of termination and visual inspections of hazardous areas and equipment.

“The EEHA competencies are part of the accredited Certificate IV in Hazardous Areas.

“Students will undergo recognition of prior learning, in regard to electrical components and must hold a current electrical licence.”

Flexible training options are available, with night classes running over 10 weeks, or five days full time also offered.
