Musculoskeletal disorders training course

Monday, 25 January, 2016

Musculoskeletal disorders are a serious health concern that account for over 40% of workers compensation claims in the NSW mining industry.

To help combat the problem, the Mine Safety Industry Assistance Unit is running its popular musculoskeletal disorders education program in the Far West of NSW. The mine safety unit said the program has already run with great success in the Central West, North Coast and South Coast regions.

The key to the program’s success is the use of workers as task experts. Workers are given the knowledge and tools to identify hazardous manual tasks before they then develop solutions to reduce the hazards.

The course will be running in the following locations:

  • Broken Hill — 9 February to 21 June 2016
  • Cobar — 10 February to 22 June 2016

The program includes five two-hour training sessions, held once a month.
