Mental health workshop for managers
Despite one in five Australians experiencing mental health problems each year, nearly half of all senior managers believe none of their workers will experience a mental health problem at work, according to a paper from Queensland Centre of Mental Health Research. Organisations tend to face serious costs from turnover, absenteeism, reduced productivity, compensation claims and legal proceedings when mental health concerns are not managed effectively at work.
To help provide awareness to managers, People Solutions will hold workshops to provide a practical guide for managers in knowing how to offer initial support to their team members and answering the often asked questions: What do I say? What do I do?
The ‘Mental Health Awareness for Managers’ workshop has been created to help managers learn how to identify key psychosocial workplace risks and provide them with the tools, approaches and strategies necessary to deal with these situations more effectively. For example, the workshop provides practical advice on how to constructively approach a conversation with someone who may need assistance.
Designed by organisational psychologists, the workshop will help managers to: build awareness of the prevalence and impact of mental health concerns at work; identify situations and behaviours that may indicate a potential issue; understand how to approach and discuss concerns; understand how they can support others through their own behaviour and/or organisational supports; create a proactive environment that maximises health and minimises harm.
