Health and safety representative (HSR) training approved

Monday, 17 June, 2013

Best Practice Certification has announced for the second year running that it has been approved to provide health and safety representative (HSR) training, following last year’s OHS harmonisation.

WorkCover approved HSR trainer and lead auditor Sarah Reding says work health and safety legislation changes have better equipped the workforce to ensure safe work practices.

“Greater HSR power is now seeing continual improvement throughout many industries, including the ability to issue a provisional improvement notice (PIN) and to direct that unsafe work practices cease.”

As current Chair for Safety Conference Sydney, Organising Committee and Certified Professional Member of the Safety Institute of Australia, Reding says ensuring new HSRs have completed the prerequisite training course influences their value add to company operations and improves customer confidence.

“Keeping track of jurisdiction changes in which your organisation operates is important to review current policies and procedures including extension of duties, consultation, right of entry, elections of health and safety representatives.”
