Guard machinery advanced courses available

Friday, 21 December, 2012

A machineSafe advanced course will provide information on how to guard machinery in compliance with Australian Standards and legislation. The courses have been updated to incorporate some of requirements of the new Codes of Practice for Plant.

The advanced two-day course, a follow-on from the introduction course, helps attendees get up to speed with the WHS legislation. It has been specially put together for technical staff who are given the important task of building safety features into new machinery or upgrade the safety features on existing machinery. It delves into the details of key aspects in safety design and grasps the requirements of AS4024.1-2006 and the new WHS legislation.

The course outline includes:

  • How the newly introduced Work Health and Safety legislation impacts on machinery safety
  • Mechanical guarding concepts
  • Protective devices such as emergency stops, interlock switches, presence sensing devices, safety logic devices, safety contactors and valves
  • Electrical safety circuit design
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic safety circuit design
  • Validation of safety control systems
  • Energy isolation
  • Steps, ladders and platform design
  • Conveyor safety requirements

The course will be held in:

  • Melbourne: Monday-Tuesday, 4-5 February 2013
  • Sydney: Thursday-Friday, 14-15 February 2013
