Fatal electric shock investigated

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland and the Electrical Safety Office are investigating the death of a tree lopper, who died on 22 August after receiving an electric shock. The incident occurred outside a house in The Gap, when the tool on an extension pole the man was using came into contact with overhead powerlines.

Businesses and their workers are reminded to be aware of overhead powerlines and to respect the safe exclusion zone distances around them. The zone varies depending on electrical voltage.

It is also important to bear in mind the height and length of tools and equipment when working around powerlines.
