Communication technology for frontline and emergency workers under discussion

Law enforcement agencies across Australia and around the world are facing ever increasing challenges. These challenges are also creating new opportunities to leverage new and innovative technologies such as body worn video. While the capture of the data is clearly important, the issues surrounding its storage, management, sharing and retention of this data are even more critical. This topic will be under discussion at the Comms Connect conference and exhibition being held in Melbourne, 1–3 December 2015.

The 'Body worn video: the camera is the easy part!' session will be presented by Senior Sergeant Wayne Hutchings — Road Policing Command, Queensland Police Service. He will outline how the Queensland Police Service has conducted in-depth trials and, as a result, is developing an on-officer video program for its members.

Other speakers during the conference will include:

  • Declan Ganley, CEO, Rivada Networks, presenting a keynote presentation on the topic of dynamic spectrum arbitrage: a new model for building, sharing and paying for public safety mobile broadband.
  • Andrew Findlay from Vertel speaking about the rise of virtualisation — is it a threat or opportunity for land mobile radio?
  • David Jarvis, UXC Saltbush, presenting on the topic of cyber attacks — target profiling and protection.
  • Jan Thompson, Head of Public Safety Industry and Society, Ericsson, presenting the session titled 'Multi-agency situational awareness — capturing and making sense of data for safety and transport applications'.
  • Panel discussion on the topic: 'Public safety mobile broadband: what does the future hold for responders and emergency managers?'

Together with the two-day conference and six preconference training workshops, Comms Connect will also feature an exhibition with over 85 exhibitors. Products and solutions on display will include: earthing, grounding, lighting protection; satellite; surveillance equipment; two-way radio; unified critical communications; software and radio applications; RoIP/VoIP; location technologies: GPS/GIS/mapping; wireless broadband/WiMAX, LTE and 4G; and many more.
