Chemical engineers to focus on regeneration at Chemeca

Regeneration, recovery and reinvention will be a key theme at Chemeca 2016, the largest annual gathering of Australian and New Zealand chemical and process engineers. The event is expected to attract up to 400 delegates on 25–28 September 2016, at the Adelaide Convention Centre, South Australia.

The conference has attracted a host of international experts who will each share the latest developments, case studies and lessons learned from their respective fields. Sustainability, production industry synergies and companion industry processes are just some of the topics chemical engineers will be invited to discuss, leading the way with strong ideas and expertise on the future of these areas.

Organising committee chair Tony Williams said that Australian engineers have been issued a clear challenge by the Australian federal government: “That is, to raise the level of innovation and develop new technology, while simultaneously lowering our carbon footprint by improving the efficiency and utilisation of resources within Australia. This challenge is applicable in New Zealand too.

“This year’s Chemeca will rise to the challenge, presenting discoveries and knowledge across the breadth of chemical engineering.

“Delegates will gather ideas for innovation and potential applications within industry, while obtaining access to a network of like-minded people.”

Williams urged chemical engineers to participate and take away an opportunity for transformation based on the conference theme of Regeneration, Recovery and Reinvention.

“Technology designed for the world stage is being developed in Australia and New Zealand. Its potential needs to be transformed into manufacturing.”

The event will also host the Awards of Excellence in Chemical Engineering, announcing this year’s Chemeca medal winner and other industry awards. KBR will sponsor the Student Design Prize, recognising an outstanding final-year design project from Australia and New Zealand’s University chemical engineering departments.

Chemeca 2016 is supported by the SA Government and various industries. It is hosted by the Australian and New Zealand Federation of Chemical Engineers (ANZFChE) comprising the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), Engineers Australia (EA), the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI) and the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ).
