Are accidents at work inevitable?

Wednesday, 16 September, 2015

‘To err is human — are workplace accidents inevitable?’ is an interactive panel session being held at the Safety Institute of Australia National Convention today at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The panel will challenge the idea that poor safety outcomes are derived from human error, and therefore can be eliminated through rules, procedures, compliance and discipline. The panel will contend that people are the source of solutions and error correction — people are the solution, not the problem.

Panellists bring together some of the best organisational minds, both from Australia and overseas, to challenge a safety paradigm that seeks to prevent injury and illness at work, yet burdens and paralyses organisations with compliance, bureaucracy and redundancy.

The Safety Institute of Australia’s National Convention will be held in Melbourne on 16–17 September and is exploring the topic ‘Safety Differently’. Visit www.siasafetyconferences.com.au.
