How working at height can help you earn more

Whether you’re a builder, electrician, fabricator or welder, working-at-height training can help open new doors and lead to higher paying jobs. Getting certified could also set you up for a second trade — if not as a crane operator, perhaps installing or repairing fixtures at height, high-rise construction work or as a scaffolder.

There are numerous examples of industries where height specialists are in demand in Australia — construction and mining in particular.

Many industries in Australia need tradies with the necessary skills to work at heights.

Why working at heights can be well paid

While the remuneration can be high, there are of course inherent risks at working at heights. That is why Australian businesses employing staff to work at height must ensure they have the required training.

Dave Noonan, chief of the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU), said that crane, hoist and lift operators do high-risk work.

“They work at height, under great pressure and have to exercise very precise skills that have very high requirements for occupational health and safety. The consequences of making a mistake are obviously very serious for other construction workers, but also they are interacting with the public,” Noonan told news.com.au.

In Australia, however, stringent workplace health and safety laws mean that working at height can be as safe as it is lucrative. All you need is the correct training delivered by an established height safety training provider.
