NZ trenching fatality stirs safety call
18 November, 2008
A trenching collapse that killed a construction worker in New Zealand has sparked a call by safety regulators for a more proactive approach to ensure the safety of constrction workers. Callum Molloy Ltd was fined for failing to get geotechnical advice on the stability of the material surrounding the trench walls, failing to cut the trench back to a safe slope and starting work without notifying the Department of Labour.
Simple safety steps might have prevented fatality
15 October, 2008
A worker, one week into a new job, was killed when a machine he was inside for cleaning was activated. The machine was not isolated or locked out to prevent activation.
Gas and radiation detection
11 October, 2008 | Supplied by: RAE Systems Inc
The AreaRAE Rapid Deployment Kit is a wireless toxic gas and radiation detection system designed to interface with existing AreaRAE systems.
Micro gas chromatograph
11 October, 2008 | Supplied by: Siemens Ltd
The Micro gas chromatograph rapidly determines the calorific value of natural gas. The device is suitable for custody transfer of natural gas, such as pipeline monitoring, gas transfer and distribution stations, gas liquefaction and regasification of LNG terminals.
SL diode laser gas analyser
11 October, 2008 | Supplied by: Siemens Ltd
The Sitrans SL diode laser gas analyser features an inline reference cell filled with a non-interfering reference gas, providing a non-contact measurement of gas concentrations in process or flue gases.
Open path gas analyser
18 September, 2008
LI-COR’s LI-7500 high-speed, high-precision Open Path CO2/H2O infrared gas analyser accurately measures absolute densities of carbon dioxide and water vapour in turbulent air.
Product recall of faulty gas detector
25 August, 2008
The Department of Mining Safety and Health has issued a product recall of Industrial Scientific’s 4CF carbon monoxide sensors, after finding some makes could suddenly stop detecting the gas.
Adjustable calibration gas regulator
18 August, 2008
The Dial-a-Flow regulator provides technicians with one regulator that has seven different flow settings ranging from 0.3 to 3 L/min or 0.5 to 5 L/min.
Calibration gases
18 August, 2008 | Supplied by: CAC Gas & Instrumentation
Calibration gases are now available in a 112 L cylinder, providing users with nearly twice the gas volume they have been used to with previous cylinders, but without an increase in the physical cylinder size.
Multiple gas monitors
18 August, 2008
The X-am 2000 is a four-gas detector that reliably measures explosive gases and vapours, as well as O2, CO and H2S. It is suitable for confined space use and comes in a special case with charger, electronic pump and tubing.
CO2 monitor
18 August, 2008
The D-TEK CO2 gas monitor uses an infrared absorption-sensing cell which is highly selective to carbon dioxide, combined with circuitry that allows the instrument to equalise to the CO2 present in the atmosphere to minimise the risk of false alarms.
Multi-gas detector
18 August, 2008
GasAlertMicro is a compact, durable multi-gas detector suited to a wide range of applications including HAZMAT response, confined space entry and post-inspection fire safety.
Emissions analyser
18 August, 2008
The Enerac 500 EMS is a micro-emissions monitoring system that uses large electrode-area, filtered electro-chemical sensors. It is easy to use and scans for NO, NO2, SO2, CO and O2.
