BaySpec 1st Guard Raman analyser

The handheld Raman analyser 1st Guard from BaySpec is designed to identify hazardous materials, unknown chemical substances and industrial-grade materials, allowing personnel to quickly and accurately identify unknown chemical substances on the spot.

The analyser is battery operated, lightweight, ruggedised and easy to use. Based on Raman-spectroscopy technology, it is suitable for identification and use with narcotics and illicit street drugs; explosives and chemical warfare agents; hazardous materials and chemical spills.

Unlike other lab-based analytical techniques, there is no sample preparation needed - it can penetrate plastic bags or clear and even amber-coloured glass bottles while not altering or destroying the sample.

It has an active trigger built into an easy-to-grip handle. Extended battery life (>4 h) allows continuous, uninterrupted work in the field.

Operated like a point-and-shoot camera, the device delivers accurate identification results in seconds. Identification is based on the chemical fingerprint at a molecular level, so there is no chance for mix-up or human error.

It is run by a Windows-based compact computer, allowing data downloads or communication with centralised facilities by Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.
