ATANSW applauds voluntary uptake of vehicle-tracking technology
ATANSW has applauded the trucking industry’s voluntary adoption of vehicle-tracking technology, with Transport Certification Australia (TCA) announcing last month that 25,000 of its in-vehicle units have been installed in heavy vehicles across Australia.
ATANSW Manager Jodie Broadbent said the public are often unaware of how technologically advanced the trucking industry had become.
“Our members are acutely aware of how technology like this can provide advantages for their business and customers,” Broadbent said.
“When we see crashes involving heavy vehicles, the knee-jerk response has been to discuss mandating black-box technology in all trucks. However, many operators already have this technology installed in their fleets.
“While this technology may help police in crash investigations on occasion, its main benefit is to help operators ensure freight is moved in the most safe and efficient manner possible.
“ATANSW has long supported the voluntary uptake of technology such as GPS. We will continue to encourage the adoption of technologies that provide safety, environmental and commercial benefits for our members and community.”
