Scholarships to improve safety for women
SafeWork SA is calling on applications for two scholarships of up to $10,000 each to improve occupational health and safety outcomes for women in South Australia.
The Augusta Zadow Scholarships are in their third year and are named in honour of Augusta Zadow, who in 1895 became South Australia's first female Inspector of Factories.
An active trade unionist and suffragist, Zadow played a crucial role in securing better conditions for factory workers of the time, particularly women and children.
The scholarships honour her legacy by funding further education, research, and/or occupational health and safety initiatives for the benefit of women at work.
A committee comprising representatives from SafeWork SA, WorkCover, Business SA, SA Unions, the Office For Women and the Working Women's Centre will assess applications.
The deadline for submissions is 31 August 2007 and selection criteria can be found on the SafeWork SA website.
