Augmented reality helmet improves workplace safety

A helmet that facilitates augmented reality in the workplace will be demonstrated by the CSC at the Gartner Symposium.

The DAQRI Smart Helmet allows workers to view data and detailed schematics overlaid translucently in their line of vision. This enables them to see what is going on around them while simultaneously viewing information displayed on the visor.

Data visualisation creates enhanced situational awareness, with sensors on machinery able to relay messages directly to the helmet wearer so they can identify any anomalies immediately. This also increases safety for workers.

Augmented reality is also used to provide guided work instructions to field workers, which reduces errors and enables less experienced staff to complete more complex tasks. They can also connect to an expert in a remote location, who can see the same view as the worker out in the field and guide them through a job as activity takes place.

The Gartner Symposium is being held on the Gold Coast from 24 to 26 October.
