Maintaining safety focus as National Safe Work Month ends

National Safe Work Month has now ended for the year, but workplaces should continue to think about maintaining a safe environment for all employees.

Safe Work Australia reported that many organisations and individuals got involved with running a safety initiative during October.

Following is a list of some of the initiatives undertaken by Safe Work Australia throughout the month:

  • The launch of the National Safe Work Month website.
  • Releasing a campaign kit with a vast array of resources to help businesses run a safety initiative.
  • Safe Work Australia Chair Diane Smith-Gander released a video statement.
  • Published a collection of infographics on fatalities and injuries by industry and by state.
  • Published a National Safe Work Month checklist.
  • Launched the Workplace Reward competition and a new Instagram account.
  • Federal Minister for Employment Minister Cash formally launched National Safe Work Month.
  • Broadcast Building a bully-free workplace for World Mental Health Day.
  • Published the 2016 Work-related traumatic injury fatalities report.
  • Broadcast Fun, exciting and safe: WHS in major events.
  • Published an infographic showing statistics on children and young people in the workplace.
  • Published the Australian Workers’ Compensation Statistics 2015–16 report.
  • Published a series of videos featuring workers telling their safety story.

Those who ran a safety initiative during October could consider entering it into Safe Work Australia’s competition.

Visit the Safe Work Australia website throughout the year for ideas, resources and information on how to make workplaces safer.
