NSCA Adelaide Member Connect a success

The Adelaide Member Connect was held at Sparke Helmore Lawyers on Thursday, 11 May. The 45 attendees were presented with a diverse selection of topics by three safety professionals and an opportunity to network with fellow members during the breaks.

Chris Ftinogiannis, Director at AEP Health Group, presented on the health of the workplace and how it affects productivity. Chris also shared his knowledge on Wellness Programs and the impact it can have on staff retention, reducing presenteeism and the reduction of work-related injuries and therefore premiums.

After morning tea, Luke Holland, Partner at Sparke Helmore Lawyers, spoke about the emerging WHS issues around the duties of PCBUs, offices and workers, as well as the emerging issues of mental health, wellbeing and connectivity. Luke shared background insights on the legislation, including key changes and issues from the past four years, penalty trends in South Australia and the sleeping giant of demographic change.

Andrew Simmonds, General Manager WHSE&QA at ASC, finished off the presentations with a case study on a technical solution for safety improvements in the building and maintenance of Australia’s frontline naval defence capabilities; specifically relating to working in the confined spaces of a submarine. Andrew took the attendees on a journey from the desire through to the change — workplace engagement and consultation; to the solution — trials and improvement opportunities.
